Meet the people

In August 2006, Sharon returned to South Africa for a special 2-week project in a Xhosa township near Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.  For this Distel Khaya Mundi Project, Sharon and The Peace Train's Durban coordinator, Shophi Ngidi, will workshop with the township residents to develop and premiere a brand new musical reflecting the cultural mix in the New South Africa.  We hope that you will come with us to South Africa in August 2008 to meet the musicians and dancers in this production.  (Stellenbosch is also known for its incredible wines,! so you can also do some wine tasting!)

When in Durban, do as the Zulus do.  Shophi will treat you to the sounds, sights and tastes of traditional Zulu culture.  We have successfully launched Shophi's solo career with the production of her first CD, "Vukani Kusile," as well as brought her on board to work with the youth in the 4 projects we described above.

To witness how South African music is being produced today, meet MALO-D at his studio for a recording session.  Malo-D is an original child of The Peace Train who is now an award-winning producer, sound engineer and musician working on music development projects in villages and townships throughout South Africa.

Nonhlanhla Wanda, acclaimed South African jazz singer and committed educator, will teach you how to croon South African-style, and then have you swooning over the beautiful voices of the children at her school.
